1943, World War Two. Harry Chambers plans his escape from an Italian Prisoner of War camp and convinces his friend and fellow soldier, Sam to go with him. When Sam is injured they are taken in by an Italian family and Harry finds himself falling for the young and beautiful daughter, Sabina. After the Italian Armistice, those harbouring prisoners are threatened with death and Harry must leave. After sealing their love he promises to return. Meanwhile at home in England Harry's girlfriend, Bunty, waits anxiously for news of him. News which never arrives.
Harry's war demons threaten his world and truth and lies are never far apart. But will he keep his promise?
