Dylan's Nam
Tom Faustman
This is the story of Dylan Frazier--a young man from the Philly suburbs who is drafted to Vietnam, finds--of all things--he is good at being a soldier, and gets assigned as an MP to one of the most dangerous areas of Nam. He quickly learns the ropes of life in a war zone (Such as--don't piss people off, take cover during early morning bombings, use a mosquito net, and don't mess with the local women) and begins making friends with his unlikely assortment of fellow MP's. Always trying to focus on the positive, Dylan shoots hoops, plays ping pong, and finds ways to make his friends laugh in the face of misery. What he cannot avoid, is his innate curiosity which leads him into a dangerous predicament where he is investigating crooks within his own unit. He is torn between doing his job, and not endangering the lives of himself and his friends.
